Golden Keys Clubhouse | 1964
Architect: Chopas and Starkovich, in collaboration with Haver, Nunn and Jensen master plannersCompletion: 100%
Style: Mediterranean Modern Legendary Phoenix developer Dell Trailor named the Gold Key Homes complexes across the city after the keys to his favorite gold Cadillac. Coincidentally, Golden Keys is age-restricted to 55 and up. The homes were born of a new desire for lock-and-leave living when single family homes were on the decline in the early 1960s. Trailor worked with Haver’s firm on several complexes citywide, many of which feature dramatic entrances such as the one featured here. The Mediterranean look is said to have been inspired by Trailor’s travels in Greece. The exuberant styling likely involved the handiwork of the firm’s artist Jim Salter. Chopas and Starkovich are listed on the architectural plans for the clubhouse, but Haver's firm appears to have done the master planning and residential design.
