Modern Phoenix Week 2019 + Tour of Ralph Haver Homes
McMinn Residence
Neighborhood: Town & Country ParadiseArchitect: Very Likely Ralph Haver AIA
Year: 1962
Town and Country Paradise is the last known Town and Country neighborhood to be developed in Phoenix Metro. Marketing trended toward Polynesian in the 1960s, and in addition to the usual traditional Town and Country plan (remarketed here as The Mariana) the Kona Palms and Tahitian models were added. This home is probably a hybrid Tahitian. Buyers were encouraged to customize plans at time of purchase; the shed roof carport is unusual, yet the breezeblock is typical. The block has been sandblasted down to its original material. Unlike earlier Town and Country homes with patioports, the Tahitian model is organized around a lanai out back. This lanai has been enclosed by an unknown previous owner, but floor to ceiling windows still capture views of Piestewa Peak. Artwork is by local artists sourced from MCM, Soda Pop Vintage and Zinnia’s. A similar model in the same neighborhood.
