Modern Phoenix Week 2018 + Home Tour of Marion Estates
Evertson House
Architect: Ralph Haver AIAYear: 1959
Completion: 80%
Style: Split Level Midcentury Modern
This rare split-level was designed for contractor Sven Evertson and was called “Swedish Modern” in its time. It is one of Haver’s few remaining single family custom homes. The pitched roof is steeper than typical Haver Homes but is clad beneath with one of his favorite finishes, wood. The roofline extends to shelter a complete guest suite further downhill, creating a giant sized patioport so popular in his smaller tract homes. Notable features include a stone fireplace with copper hood (with a hibachi hood on the reverse), angled balcony railings and huge west facing corner windows. Minor alterations made the second-story suite a bit more spacious, but the home is otherwise very much the same as the day it was built.
