The Original Polynesian Dairy Queen at Polynesian Plaza| 1965

By Haver and Nunn

There's only one Polynesian Dairy Queen in all of the nation, and Phoenix is proud to have hosted it. Most likely designed by Polynesian aficionado Jim Salter of the Haver and Nunn firm in the 1960s, this building was situated next door to a larger complex called Polynesian Plaza, which hosted a Pizza Pub as well. Further to the south is Polynesian Palms multifamily complex, but its formal relationship to the Plaza is unclear. When threatened with demolition in 2019, the community rallied to find a new home for the Dairy Queen. A developer took interest, and now the facade is being relocated into a restaurant concept in central Scottsdale.Polynesian Dairy Queen in Phoenix ArizonaPolynesian Dairy Queen in Phoenix ArizonaPolynesian Dairy Queen in Phoenix ArizonaPhotos ©2018 Modern Phoenix LLC The Ralph Haver Archive
