In 1956 and 1957 dozens of Arizonan homebuilders collaborated to produce a showcase street of contemporary ranch style homes in northern Phoenix. The list of participants reads like a Who's Who of homebuilding in Phoenix: Del Trailor, Frank and Hugh Knoell, D. D. Castleberry, Ralph Staggs, John C. Hall, John F. Long, Ralph Haver and Bill Swisher are just a few among many who contributed model home designs. The 1956 program includes four conceptual drawings and plans for "Designs of the Future". Regrettably, these drawings are not credited to any architect, though some look familiar in form and execution to existing homes in Phoenix today. These showcase streets still exist today, and the color photos included in this article were taken in the year 2006 to compare against the original renderings.
