1st National Bank (24th and Washington)

Postby modeddie on Tue Feb 15, 2011 10:59 pm

This Mid-Century Marvel used to have signs indicating that it was home to the Community Noise Reduction Program of Sky Harbor Airport. Yesterday I biked by and noticed that those signs were gone. Any news about what will happen to the building? Wrecking ball or creative re-use? Or is it just that the signs are being changed? The modern Phoenix mind easily turns to darker thoughts.

Ack! I don't know! This might be solved better by calling the Noise Reduction program?

I e-mailed the City of Phoenix Aviation Department to ask about the building's fate. Here's the reply.

Thank you for your inquiry regarding the 1 South 24th Street property. We do own the property and our Community Noise Reduction Team has recently moved out of the facility. We do not plan to tear it down. We have boarded up the building to protect it against vandalism. We currently have no specific plans for the building and we would consider leasing the facility to a new tenant. It is a nice building that sits in great proximity to a light rail station. Please let me know if you hear of anyone who might be interested in leasing the facility.

Time to spread the word.

Do tell, in one forum or another. I noticed some folks poking around there, without wrecking balls. That you are tickled reassures me.

I will tell as soon as I can -- if this works out it'll be great!

Oh come on, at least let us play 20 questions or something!

Are they turning it into a man, animal or vegeta---- I'm no good at this game.

I noticed some activity here on my ride to work: either roof- or HVAC-repair. There is now a porta-potty on site. Routine maintenance by the city; or signs of better things to come?

Seed Spot had originally planned to move in there, but I'm told that there were problems with the air conditioning that made it not work for them, so they apparently moved on?
