The Tuck Shop hopes to expand to a (now vacant) house next door. It will be a breakfast/lunch/Tuck-Shop-waiting-area when it's busy. For the unlucky few who've never been, and to clarify why I post here rather than Marketplace---I have no business interest in the place, I just happen to be lucky enough to live around the corner---read the posts and view the photos at
http://www.modernphoenix.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4342&p=22193&hilit=tuck+shop#p22193 and many other posts in these forums. Besides being an exquisitely tasteful example of modern reuse (of a frankly ugly original), and besides serving fabulous and creative food, it is located right in the middle of a residential neighborhood, mine, at the corner of 12th Street and Oak, epicenter of the Coronado Historic District. I bike or walk by the restaurant every night, and they are fabulous neighbors. The building sits beautifully and lightly in the neighborhood. I think owner DJ Fernandes is a Phoenix urban pioneer in the spirit of Jane Jacobs in opening a great restaurant in a residential neighborhood. If you agree that Tuck Shop is a great addition to Central Phoenix, then please write a letter of support to the City of Phoenix Planning Department, 200 West Washington, Phoenix AZ 85003, and, if you can, attend the hearing on Sept 15 at 900 AM at City Hall. I'll be there. I attach a flyer.
