Good Breweries in Phoenix?

Postby Landlord Brian on Mon Mar 29, 2010 8:04 pm

Howdy!
I'm a homebrewer and beer aficionado, and I just moved to Phoenix; can anyone point me in the direction of some great local breweries and brewpubs?
By the way, if you're kinda avant-garde and have a thirst, breweries draw a really cool crowd, I highly recommend them to anyone who hasn't given local breweries a shot.
Cheers,

Sun Up Brewery on Camelback Road in uptown Phoenix is nice, and family-friendly. Their happy hour 1/2 price apps are a great way to feed a crowd. And they brew their own root beer for the kiddos! Used to be called Sonoran Brewhouse but Sun Up is the same old place.

Four Peaks is one of my favorite breweries, not only in the Valley, but in the country.

Ditto on Sun Up and Four Peaks.

Also, Papago Brewing has an impressive selection of beers, plus a few of their own brews.

If you're up in Flagstaff, check out Flagstaff Brewing Co, Beaver Street Brewery, and Mogollon (though I think that one may have closed).

Brian - I think you should consider opening a brewpub that serves food, based on the response that you received to your post, we clearly need more in the area!!

San Tan Brewery in downtown Chandler is good...really good food. But my fave is 4 Peaks in Tempe...the chicken strips there are just insane. In a good way.

Sleepy Dog Brewery in Tempe is AWESOME! Definitely recommend their sampler, "the litter". A cool thing about this place is you can bring your own food and order in because they don't serve food. Definitely ask for their menu binder and order pizza from Spinatos. Especially the l'italiana special with spinach and feta, the best pizza I've had in the valley (and I've been to Bianco).
