The Parlor Pizzeria is open!

Postby pedrolobo on Mon May 25, 2009 10:21 pm

Where to begin raving about what Aric has done with the place??? The pierced block wall has never looked better, either from Camelback or from the interior, where it's truly celebrated. As is plenty of the original building, from the wine rack (courtesy of the original sprinkler system) to the bar and tabletops (milled from wood "harvested" from the building during demo). There are even scraps of the original wallpaper — a very nice touch, indeed — and the pneumatic salon chairs along one end of the bar. Oh, and the lighting and solar (yes!) hot water heating system.

And the food lives up to the design work, too — absolutely wonderful! Pasta made on-site, herbs straight out of the Parlor's garden, etc. The roast beet salad alone is worth the trip. But make it soon, as it won't be long before there are long waits for a seat in the Parlor...

Went there with a family group last night. We had the arancini (rice balls) and the Parlor salad as appetizers and the pesto and Yukon gold pizzas as mains. Very nice food and service, and the building couldn't look better. I'll post a full review soon on Yelp.

Shawn and I had lunch here yesterday and I have to say it was AAAAMazing. We had the pepperoni pizza and the fields salad. AWESOME. The building is awesome, staff very friendly and the food was incredible. We will definitely be back.

yup we went again last night and it was way tasty.

i must say i don't "get" the antique chairs at the tables. i'm all for eclectic but they surprise me. a friend said they were temporary. is that true, aric?

I just had to put my two cents in about the Parlor... had an late lunch/early dinner here about a week ago and was totally wowed by everything. I was extremely impressed with what they did with the space; the food only made it a better experience. I've heard some complaints about the chairs, which I understand is temporary, but I myself had nothing to complain about. Please check them out as they are a wonderful addition to the hood!

My $0.02...Fantastic space! Great bar, good crowd and atmosphere, friendly service, however our server wasn't 100% familiar with the menu (I'm sure that will change with time).

We opted for the "Mushroom, goat cheese, truffle oil" pizza and we made a prosciutto and basil pizza. We gave it a 6.758 of 10. The dough/crust lacked seasoning and fell a little flat. Also, coming from a wood fired oven I would have expected that nice subtle smokey flavor that you receive from places like Bianco, Grimaldi's, or a Grazie.

All said and done, we intend to revisit The Parlor...it's too cool of a space.

Also you can't beat the $2 PBR pints! If you are into Blue Ribbon. 8)

i found the truffle flavor too much on that pizza but i've only had anything truffle flavored once before (truffle oil as well) and maybe i just don't like truffles. will someone please take me out to somewhere that does something fantastic with truffles and buy me a $50 plate of pasta so i can see what the real thing is like?

the only thing i don't like about parlor is it's going to be sofa-king crowded in the fall when everyone comes back into town. i declare summer 2009 to be the summer of parlor!

Went last night with a table of 6. Had a great time -- got to sample several different pizza's and were impressed by the quality of ingredients used in the toppings -- I loved the sage and sausage combo, and that fact that the pepperoni was actually spicy! Can't say we were blown away by the crust, but it was a more than adequate delivery mechanism for the amazing toppings.

We thought that the chairs were a nod to the pizza parlor style of old (thankfully they skipped the checked table clothes and Chianti-bottled candle holders  ) We loved the reuse of the salon chairs as barstools, and the vintage photos of the salon next to the washrooms...

Oh yeah, and the $7 pitchers/$2 pints of PBR brought back memories of college!

Finally made it over last night, wow! Loved the interior, so well done. Every detail was thoughtful and I loved the little touches. I was thrilled to see how they incorporated the decorative block, it's a gorgeous feature wall.

Food was also excellent. Sam and I split the Parlor Insalata (we got the small size and it was perfect for two people to split before dinner), then an 8" Pepperoni and an 8" Yukon potato. I was really excited about the potato pizza but it was a little lacking. I couldn't taste the gorgonzola at all but could definitely taste the leeks (would have expected the opposite.) The pepperoni however...yummmm! I love pizza with fresh basil on it, it's just such a fun burst of flavor. The cheese was nice and cheesy and the pepperoni had great spicy flavor. Sam had 2 beers and our whole tab including tip was $43. Sweet!

We'll definitely be back. I was shocked at how full it was. We went at about 6:00 on a Friday night so I don't know why I was surprised, but I guess I thought it would still be fairly undiscovered. It's definitely been discovered and clearly people love it!
