Midcentury reno

Postby rfc1957 on Sat May 21, 2011 7:37 am

Here are some pics of a midcentury reno my partner and I have been working on since 10/09. Work in progress; inside is done and working with Bill Tonnesen on landscaping.

Can't find the builder--house was in a subdivision called Sundown Ranch Acres near Shea/Hayden. Built in 1958 it has a "Googie" style to it?? It was in Maricopa County back then; no building permit required! Any ideas on who the architect might be would welcome!

Thanks!
Bob and Ray

It looks a wee tad like the Small Contemporary rendering at the bottom of this page in 1956

But not close enough, study of the floorplan may reveal other similarities.

Bob & Ray- what a GREAT place you have!! Amazing profile. Are the other homes in your neighborhood similar? Would love to see more photos of your renovations.

Thanks Alison for the renderings--the house has some of those elements, like a parabolic house and garage roof, but we haven't been able to locate any late 50's ads for Sundown Ranch Acres-I think the developer may have also been the "architect" or ??

Meagan--thanks-we will get more pictures posted of the place. Sadly many houses in this area were scraped due to lot size and newer homes built--there are a few midcentury homes on Sundown, and one Blaine Drake on Gary off 83rd that we've seen progress nicely by another friend we've come to know in the neighborhood. He and his family moved in about 9 months ago after reno.

We'll keep adding more pics!

Thanks,
Bob and Ray

Here are some more pics from the inside during reno--we took out a portion of the wall between the lr and kitchen/dining to create a large open plan. Removed all soffit and opened up wall between kitchen and west room for light. WIll post some pics of landscape when trees were brought in by Bill Tonnesen and the patio/wall/welded wire fabric fence just completed. Thanks for all the kind words.
