Next up is the flooring in the main house.

I've always wanted to do a midnight black stained concrete. I saw it once in an ad for something else and fell in love. Again, it's a treatment that is a little much for resale... But not for my house!

I think it turned out fantastic and it will probably be a contender for future resale properties. Most people balk at the idea, but when they came to see it couldn't believe how good it looked.

Now that the floor is stained, cured and covered in cardboard.
It's kitchen install time!

I've been obsessed lately with multi-layered kitchen counter heights. So lots of measuring, and LOTS of return trips to Ikea (I'm bad with math) extended the build out time on this seemingly small kitchen project.

First: Build the cabinets
Second: Add custom touches (hairpin legs, floating lower cabs etc)
Third: Put on some 80's hair metal and use a grinder to create badass metal sparks like it's a Damn Yankees video!
Fourth: Apply stainless steel backsplash
Fifth: Get the thumbs up from the girlfriend that she approves.

Now on to lighting and other fun touches.

The spiral vent in the master bedroom was added, as the single vent that was in there before just simply will not do!

A few color pops inside keep it interesting

and my buddy John Scott and I put our noodles together to create these fun light fixtures throughout the house. He built them, I mumbled random ideas, and showed him poorly drawn out cave-manish type scratches that he had to interpret in order to build real world fixtures.

That does it for this round of updates.

We are 4 days behind schedule.
Everything is waiting on countertops right now.
Those are being fitted right now, and then should go in this week.
Once those are in, a few days of touch ups and then it's move in time!

Hope you guys are enjoying the updates!

John, this is all looking so awesome, the SS sheets are something I've highly considered as well, looks better than I imagined.
The black floors, perfect, love it!
I'm going to take you up on the meeting/tour, PM'ing you now!

VERY VERY cool.

One thought on the light fixtures. If the plain glass is a bit harsh, you can use and acid etch to 'frost' the mason jars which will diffuse the light a bit.

Oh...and if you are interested there might just be a fellow mopho who has said bottle of acid etch and would be willing to let you try it out.

they don't call me v-diggity for nothin'
For every complex question there is a simple answer, and it is wrong.

John- now that you've lived with it for a little while...how do you like the stainless surround? We have debated doing that as well but I am worried about cleaning and if it is constantly spotted?

Yes, it's constantly spotted and a pain to clean. However, when it's clean I'll take the look of the stainless against almost any other backsplash.
