David Wright House

Postby modeddie on Tue Jun 12, 2012 1:38 pm

I assume that most readers here already subscribe to the AZ Architecture Newsletter or know of the issue from other sources but in case some don't here's the deal: http://email.psstudios.com/t/ViewEmail/r/E4149DBD13E6EA16/89A2778AC0CC23D00F8C96E86323F7F9#toc_item_0.

In short,
Many of you may know that the David Wright house has been for sale. Recent events call for community support to ensure the future of this very significant Residence. The Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy and Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation have organized a task force, which includes advocates from Phoenix and representatives of all historic preservation entities, local, and national. It has been requested "that a City of Phoenix historic preservation overlay and Landmark Designation be considered for the David Wright House" at the next Planning Commission meeting tomorrow, Tuesday, June 12th at 4:30 pm.

We are hopeful that as an enthusiast for Architecture and Design, we can call on you to help fill the Assembly Room with "sympathetic listeners" on Tuesday. Please plan to attend if you possibly can. For this first public hearing, it is imperative we make a big impression of the large support behind this important request. When: Tuesday June 12, 4:30pm
Where: Phoenix City Hall, 200 W. Washington, 1st floor Assembly Room, open to the public

I am out of the country and cannot attend. I hope you can.

UNANIMOUS! Mayor Greg Stanton released the following statement today regarding the City of Phoenix Planning Commission’s decision to consider historic preservation and landmark status for a Frank Lloyd Wright home in Arcadia that is at risk of being demolished: “The planning commission is right to take action to protect this historic property. I look forward to working with the prospective buyer and property owner to ensure they fully understand how important this historic Frank Lloyd Wright home is to our city.”

Post retracted because of the incompetence of the author, as the commentary which follows makes clear.

Modeddie, are you sure you were talking to the owner of the David Wright house. That wasn't one of the homes on the tour. This home is on Rubicon (with an Exeter address) in Arcadia. This house has always been a jewel in the desert, but it was recently sold and current owners are builder/developers. It is on a prime piece of land in Arcadia and gets many a builder drooling over it. They saw the house as a tear down. We are working on changing their outlook on it and hopefully preserving it. Stay tuned!
