Flooring/Fencing Mid Century Ideas?

Postby SaraAvery on Fri May 04, 2012 10:30 pm

Hello All,
My name is Sara and I'm a first time home owner. I love love love mid century design, so naturally I was drawn to this home (see image). It's been recently renovated in a very "beige stucco phoenix track home" type of way by the investment company that purchased it out of foreclosure. I want to bring it back to it's original date. The main things I need to do are fence off the front (for dogs). I want a fence that is very sturdy and about 6 feet high, with limited "view-ability" into the yard. I also would like to replace carpeting in 3 rooms with something cheap but fun and mid-century styled (that is not carpet). I am way into DIY and bright, fun, vibrant-ness! I also don't want to spend too much money on these things :) (Who does?)
Anyway, any suggestions are helpful! DIY blogs, local companies (I prefer to shop local), recycled options, anything that you think will help!
Thanks so much,
Sara Avery

Hi Sara, here are two articles you might like for inspiration

http://www.modernphoenix.net/woodenfences.htm

http://www.modernphoenix.net/concretecoverings.htm

http://www.flor.com/ FLOR is superfun, kind of cheap and super DIY, carpet but not really carpet! Great if you have dogs because if somebody messes up you just pull up the carpet tile and clean it or replace it.

You will want to look into the setback requirements for your front yard -- because you are on a corner I think they may be different than a typical home? Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Good luck!

Sara,

For flooring I would go with concrete. That is as cheap and mcm as you can get, considering you can do it yourself. Just tear up the carpet, scrape off the carpet glue, and you're done. Of course, then if you want you can stain it or paint it to improve the look.
