Central Phoenix Neighborhoods

Postby Artur on Fri May 20, 2011 9:14 am

Central Phoenix, or most of Phoenix for that matter, does not have any distinct neighborhood names or at least several areas don't have common names at all. I've been trying to put some names to these areas. Some are fairly easy even though the areas they cover are in flux and subject to opinions.

Below is a rough layout of how I distinguish some of the well know areas.

What do you think?

Are these what you have in mind?

What would you change or what would you name the areas closest to these?

I'm not certain you'll have much luck with hard boundries for much of this, but I think your N/S divisions of "up/mid/downtown" is pretty good, especially considering that specific lingo is a recent attempt to differentiate central Phoenix, post-gentrification.

My one suggestion is that your Biltmore area is a bit optimistic. It should really remain south of Lincoln and east of 24th Street, north of Camelback and west of 32nd Street. Everything else has always been loosely defined as "Biltmore-adjacent/area," or it's simply Paradise Valley.

Matthew, what would you call that area that I have as 'North Foothills'?
