Favorite bars/restaurants in central Phoenix?

All discussion not related to our themes of Modernism, Contemporary Architecture and Design, Real Estate and development of Phoenix belongs here. This is a good place to discuss non-modern properties, meeting up for drinks, shows and events and other non-modern topics that would interest our community.

fave bars and restaurants

Thanks everyone for all the great suggestions. I checked out several new spots and liked everything.

Also want to give a shout out to one of my old favorites that I'm glad to see is still around -- Mediterranean House next to Richardson's. Very tasty and the same as it was 15 years ago.

Cheuvront (great views of the phx public library from the patio)
Pane Bianco
Carly's Bistro

and the already mentioned

Fate (getting better and better :D) four stars for late hours!
Barrio Cafe
Coronado Cafe*

*Bonus, easy walk to the H Mc-N Duplex at 8th and Sheridan and the Church of Reformed Modernism at 10th and Sheridan. Fine excuse to walk off that last lambic.

Notice how so many are locally owned?

We may be talking different tastes here or a generation gap. I like my bars to be pubs if possible. Rosie McCaffrey's on Camelback at about 5th St. Now even the smoke is gone. (true everywhere since May 1).

My other choices don't count as central PHX. There are 2 food joints at Town & Country (20th St. just S of camelback). Piezano's for creative takes on a pizza. And the Greek place next to it, Cyprus Grill or something like that.

My downtown list

Postby AZClydesdale on Wed Oct 10, 2007 4:27 pm

Some of my favs including some already mentioned:

City Bakery
Arcadia Farms at PAM
Matt's Big Breakfast
Switch/Ticos/Fez
Palate
Cibo
Fate
Coranado Cafe
Circ 1900
MacAlpine's Soda Fountain
ZPizza
Cheuvront Wine and Cheese Cafe
Lux/Copper Star/Drip coffees
Carolina's (best to take out)

My tendency is to circulate through these great establishments and I constantly need to force myself out of the box. I can't wait to try the chx & waffles.
True.

I'm a huge fan of Ticoz...I think it has the same owners as Fez.

Do you need reservations for Fate? I tried to make reservations over the phone numerous times back in September and all I ever got was an answering maching and nobody ever returned the calls.

I'm a big fan of Ticoz and Fez....also Matt's of course, Welcome Diner, Drip...and also just came across this little gelato shop on central and cam. called Sweet Venezia. Great coffee and tons of gelato flavors. They even have a movie night on mondays. Cool little spot.
